It's been well over a month since I posted last around these parts. The truth is there hasn't been much to update. I haven't made any substantial progress on anything in almost 2 months! It's starting to take a toll on me!
But everyone was so helpful about the hoop marks on my BBD piece. The hoop has hit the trash! I was lucky I asked you all about it before I got much further in the project as I was able to force them out with the iron by carefully getting the hoop marks wet and avoiding the threads all together! Phew! But this one hasn't been touched since. I haven't made it to the store for a suitable hoop alternative. But I'm going to try to make it to he store today!
So I ask you all....q-snaps or scroll bars? And why?
It hasn't been all stitching withdrawal lately though. I've had my share of fun in July! Expect pictures of that fun in my next update!
Thank you all for all your help and support! And thank you in advance for any help deciding between the q-snaps and scroll bars, Happy stitchy wishes to you all!

I too did away will hoops for the same reason and you get better tension with q-snaps. I like q-snaps for small/medium pieces and scroll bars for really BAP.
I agree with Edgar...I use q-snaps for the sm/med projects and scroll bars for big projects (because I think the large q-snaps are really heavy.)
I work in hand, so I can't really give you any advice from personal experience, but if possible, borrow both from a friend. Then try each for at least a day or two to find which is most comfortable for you.

Good idea!
I have varying sizes of Q snaps and have a floor stand that I clamp them to which takes all the heaviness away and I can still have the good tension with qsnaps.
I also work in hand sometimes, depending on the linen. The present project, Jonah's Hornbook is on kinda stiff linen so I just use without a frame.
I also posted a pic of my floor stand last week I believe.

Hope to see you there!

Q-Snaps are awesome! I love them! Plus I use the Needlework 4 System. It was expensive but worth it especially with my RA.
How's the babes? Hope all is good!

Hey Kim~~!
I either stitch in hand or use the scroll bars. Because of work and some fun with the family, my stitching has suffered too..I can totally relate! I had a garage sale this morning (Gia's clothes and toys went like hotcakes) and I made enough for the Ralph Lauren paints for my kitchen redo as wel as the awesome toile (rose and chocolate) that I found at Hancock on Thursday during my lunch. Guess my stitching will suffer a little longer! LOL!
I normally love my q snaps, though lately they arent working as well as when I purchased them.lol. they don't hold the fabric as taut as they should so I have been using my scroll frames instead. I know, I'm not much help am I/lol. I guess you have to try what works best for you and go from there. Take care,kImberly
Q-snaps all the way...
I have the Needlework System 4 floor frame to hold the big ones...but I wouldn't work on anything else.
I read that kimstitch3 says hers doesn't work as well as when she bought them...well if you cut strips of felt (just plain old 10 cent a retangle felt from Michaels) and put the linen on the Q-snap, then the felt and then the clamp that makes the linen so taut you can bounce a quarter off of it. Been using them for years. Wouldn't change a bit. However with all that being stated, there's some "Rollaframes" that www.downsunshinelane.com has recently talked about that has piqued my interest. However, with THAT being said, Q-snaps are locally available, not that expensive, and you can buy multiple sets and reassemble to make larger sizes and odd shapes...like tinker toys!
I use the small Q-snaps ssometimes but find the larger ones awkward when I stitch, so I tend to stitch in hand. But definitely invest in some Q-snaps and try them out - you may love them. Don't fret about your slow progress - you have lots of distractions (such cute ones too!)
I stitch in hand. I did use a hoop when I first started stitching, and also had a scrolling frame when I started stitching bigger designs, but I hated both, so now don't use anything.
I would have a go with both, if you can borrow them, and see how they feel.
Don't worry about slow progress - one stitch is one closer to finishing!
Glad you were able to get the hoop marks out. I prefer q-snaps, because they are more portable. I tend to stitch other places aside from just home, so I like the q-snaps. But, if you tend to stitch on a lot of large pieces, scroll bars are probably the way to go. If you're dealing with a lot of fabric, the scroll bars allow you to roll up what you're not working on.
I only stitch in hand, I have never used any frames or q-snaps. But my friend uses q-snaps all the time for her larger projects. And she stitches the small ones in hand, like me.
